The EVO® VISTA® Hard Hat has been developed from the ground up to seamlessly integrate with a wide range of above the neck PPE. The helmet combines a super strong ABS shell designed for superior all day protection with the comfort benefits of the Evolution® 3D-Adjustment™ harness system.

As part of JSP’s ongoing product development philosophy the EVO® VISTA® Hard Hat has not just been designed to meet a standard but to exceed it on many levels. JSP prioritise the needs and safety of the wearer, and the safety cell is born from that commitment. The safety cell concept prevents ricocheting debris travelling up the eyewear and impacting the scalp. In addition the overspec cannot make contact with the scalp, preventing injury should it be forced back on to the safety cell.

Fully compatible with prescription eyewear, the EVO® VISTAlens® allows the individual wearer’s prescription glasses to be comfortably worn underneath the integrated overspec, reducing cost and ensuring protection and vision are not compromised.

What is the shelf and useful life of an industrial safety helmet?

There is no requirement in EN or ANSI standards for assessment of a safety helmet’s shelf life, but manufacturers are required to give some guidelines on the useful and overall life. The shelf and useful life of safety helmets can therefore vary by manufacturer.

JSP safety helmets have a combined shelf and useful life of 10 years – helmets can be stored for up to 5 years in the appropriate storage conditions and can then be used up to 5 years following, ensuring that the relevant inspection and maintenance is carried out. All JSP helmets carry a date of manufacture under the peak which can be used to determine remaining life.

I have been told by a member of staff that I can wear a bump cap instead of an industrial safety helmet, is this acceptable?

No, bump caps and industrial safety helmets are made to different standards and serve different purposes. Bump caps are tested and certified to EN 812, providing protection to the wearer against the effects of striking their head against hard, stationary objects, but do not offer protection against falling masses. Industrial safety helmets provide head protection to EN 397 and are designed to protect the wearer from falling masses.

Do you offer retractable eye protection or faceshields for your helmets?

Yes, JSP offer a range of helmet-mounted eye and face protection.
EVOSpec® safety eyewear is a retractable polycarbonate eye shield, available in clear and smoke lenses, offering impact and UV protection. The spectacle fits easily to EVO® helmets and retracts inside the helmet shell when not in use.
EVOGuard™ visors, available in clear and mesh options, offer a range of protective properties including up to A rated impact resistance and arc flash protection. The visors are compatible with EVO® range helmets as well as EVOGuard™ browguard systems with the same simple fitting.
Alternatively, JSP EVO® VISTA™ and EVO® VISTA™ DUALSWITCH™ helmets are combined units offering integrated head and eye protection.

What accessories and compatible products are available for my helmet?

EVO® helmets feature accessory slots allowing simple fitting of a range of accessories and compatible products, such as EVOSpec® retractable eyeshield, EVOGuard™ visors, and Sonis® and Inter ear defenders.
Also available are 2- and 4-point chinstraps, sun capes, headwarmers, lamps, ID card holders, and reflective decals. Other product ranges are compatible with our industrial safety helmets, such as the Force® 8 half mask and EVO® goggles.

What is the difference between EN 397 and EN 12492 helmets? Can I have both?

The main difference between these two head protection standards is the intended usage, which results in different requirements. EN 397 specifies the requirements for industrial safety helmets, which primarily provide protection against falling objects, whereas EN 12492 covers helmets for use in mountaineering which includes a risk of swinging and repeated, all-round impact.
EN 12492 helmets have different requirements for the harness or cradle, which must feature an integral chinstrap that does not break under force. EN 397 helmets however do not require a mandatory chinstrap, and an optional chinstrap must break under a force of between 150N and 250N to reduce the risk of a wearer being injured by becoming caught in machinery in an industrial environment. EN 12492 helmets also feature an internal impact liner to improve side impact protection.
With growing need for a helmet meeting both standards, JSP developed the DualSwitch™ system which allows the user to change between the two standards by flicking a switch. EVO®5 DualSwitch™ and EVO® Vista™ DualSwitch™ helmets are fully tested and certified to both EN 397 and EN 12492.

Can I personalise my helmet with colours and logos?

Yes. Helmets are available in various colours, with additional bespoke colours available for orders meeting a minimum order quantity.

Hard hats and UK legislation

All workplaces are required by law to protect their workers from hazards and this is particularly true in the demanding construction and manufacturing industries. Understanding the laws that need to be followed to keep your workers safe from accidents and injuries can often prove difficult.

Rapid Fire Supplies aim to make the process easier, as BSIF accredited safety suppliers we check all of our products to ensure they comply with the relevant EU and UK safety legislation, and will always be happy to provide advice on the best products for your workplace.

While hazards may be best avoided, in some industries it is necessary to work in hazardous environments. In these circumstances, providing personal protective equipment, including hard hats, is a straightforward measure you can take to keep your employees’ risk of injury lower.

When selecting the right hard hats for your work site, it is important to stay up to date with the latest health and safety regulations. In the majority of cases and worksites, suitable head protection must conform to the British Standard BS EN397:1995, or equivalent.

Legally, employers must provide hard hats to employees and ensure that hard hats are worn on site when there is a risk of injury. It is important to ensure that all self-employed contractors are aware of the need to wear PPE and safety helmets when they are at your work site.

The EN397 Regulation also ensures that safety helmets are designed and built to protect workers from falling objects. Safety helmets are required to meet certain criteria regarding shock absorption, temperature resistance, lateral deformation and penetration resistance.

For more information on EN397’s legal requirements, the HSE explains the details of these requirements in its Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations.

Hard hats and protective helmets that comply with this legislation have been thoroughly tested to withstand impacts and protect the wearer’s skull.

Hard hats come in a variety of styles, shapes and colours to ensure that your employees are protected, regardless of the unique needs of the worksite. A number of these variations include:

  • Visors and chin guards to protect against any projectiles flying upwards
  • Adjustments made to allow for safety glasses to comfortably fit under the helmet’s visor
  • Additional safety lights that can be attached to the helmet for increased visibility
  • Shock and heat-resistant materials for adverse working conditions or working at heights
  • Options to attach ear protection, earmuffs and helmet lamps to your hard hat for a variety of working conditions
  • Hard hats with extruding visors or bills to increase visibility when looking up
  • Bright colours and fluorescent strips to increase visibility during all times of the day and night
  • Venting around the helmet to increase comfort in hot working conditions

These are just a few of the added features to consider when selecting construction hard hats, builders’ hats and safety helmets of all kinds. It is important to properly reflect on the individual needs of the worksite, and the workers’ various roles, when selecting a helmet with specific properties.

In demanding environments, blows to the head may not always be avoidable, but with the use of hard hats, the long term or even fatal consequences can generally be avoided.

Our hard hats offer comfortable protection, giving you, your workforce and their families peace of mind.

If you think that your work doesn’t warrant full hard hat protection, you can take a look at our bump caps, which aren’t as bulky but still provide protection.
