What to consider when purchasing thermal gloves.

Thermal gloves come in hundreds of styles, so it’s best to know what you’re looking for. We consider insulation, dexterity, and smartphone compatibility the most important factors.

Insulation: Thermal glove insulation ranges from lightweight, barely-there liner to bulky and oversized layers.

Dexterity: Lighter Thermal gloves allow for better dexterity in most cases. But some thicker thermal gloves have strategically placed insulation to reduce bulk in your fingertips, specifically to allow for better use of your fingers for picking up keys, putting coins in a meter, or adjusting your beanie.

Smartphone compatibility: Many thermal gloves have touchscreen-capable pads on the fingers, eliminating the need to remove your gloves every time you use your smartphone.

Where can I use the Gloves?

The Portwest Wintershield Gloves are designed for conditions that reach as low as -20°C. They are grippy and dexterous with a little protection too, making them as well suited to outdoor DIY work as they are indoor cold store and freezer work. Some applications where they are recommended include:

  • Assembly Gloves
  • Automotive Gloves
  • Builders Gloves
  • Construction Gloves
  • Cold Store Gloves

FAQs

HOW DEXTEROUS ARE THE PORTWEST WINTERSHIELD A280 GLOVES?

Portwest have made these gloves using high-tech manufacturing processes, and because of this they have managed to create extremely warm gloves that retain dexterity even in sub-zero conditions. They are quite thin, and when you wear them you'll find that you can flex and move your hands almost to the same degree as if you are not wearing the gloves. This is ideal for operating tools and machinery, as the gloves won't compromise on your abilities.

HOW MUCH GRIP DO THE PORTWEST WINTERSHIELD WORK GLOVES PROVIDE?

On the front of the Wintershield Gloves is a synthetic leather liner. This liner is a little coarser than the back of the gloves, meaning that when the gloves get a bit wet when handling materials, their grip will rapidly increase. The grippy design helps to improve worker productivity, as less time will be spent trying to get a proper hold on materials.

HOW COMFORTABLE ARE THE PORTWEST WINTERSHIELD FLEECE LINED WORK GLOVES?

The gloves feel impressively warm, snug and comfortable while you have got them on. An interior fleece liner is soft around the hands, and as the gloves don't compromise dexterity it means that you won't suffer as much hand fatigue as you would wearing other thermal gloves. This makes them useful for long shifts at work, ideally in the warehousing, forklift and packaging industries.

WHY SHOULD I TRUST THE PORTWEST WINTERSHIELD THERMAL WORK GLOVES?

You can trust the Wintershield Gloves A280 because they have been tested to EN 388 and EN 511, both of which ensure that they do exactly what they say. EN 388 tests the gloves resistance to abrasion, cuts, punctures and tears, and EN 511 tests the gloves resistance to air temperature, contact cold and water.
